In front of her were two more clues, only she had seen but one. A four of hearts, quartered, sat lazily on the sidewalk. Was it a clue? It certainly coincides with the torn four of clubs found in the above-ground parking garage. Nammu rubbed her hands against her arms, still holding onto the fourth of a playing card like a cigarette between two fingers. The air was chilly, there would be even more frost, she knew, she had a night's walk to Jersey in front of her, and in all her many preconceptions, she knew this to be the least interesting part of her journey. The other clue, the one she had overlooked, was actually a parked car. The car itself wasn't a clue, it was just a beat-up rental, but who was behind the wheel was of dire significance. The car ceased to idle, and the driver slowly followed Nammu on her hike.<br /><br />Before Nammu could even get off Austin Street, still a borrough shy and miles away from the GW Bridge to New Jersey, down rolled the tinted window of a dinged-up Escort. Out poked the lips of a magnum and gave her a kiss. Her neck burst a liquid firework, red life oozed itself into the Barnes & Nobles Starbucks, a literary discussion comes to a screeching halt.
